Requirements

BookLiberator is in need of companion software which will guide the user through the necessary steps of producing a digital book from the data obtained from the onboard cameras.

For more detailed requirements, see softwarerequirements.

Relevant Projects
  • decapod is a project focused on building a low-cost digitization solution that will allow for rare materials, materials held in collections without large budgets, and other scholarly content to be digitized into a high-quality PDF format. This project will work to incorporate the hardware and software necessary to accomplish this goal.
  • ScanTailor is an interactive post-processing tool for scanned pages. It performs operations such as page splitting, deskewing, adding/removing borders, and others. You give it raw scans, and you get pages ready to be printed or assembled into a PDF or DJVU file. Scanning, optical character recognition, and assembling multi-page documents are out of scope of this project.
  • djvubind facilitates creating high-quality djvu files, especially digital versions of scanned books. It functions as a wrapper that combines the djvulibre tools, minidjvu, and ocr engines to provide a simple, single command creation of a djvu file. Prior to djvubind, we highly recommend using Scantailor to process your scanned images.
  • bookliberator, formerly known as bkrpr, was begun specifically for the BookLiberator project, but is largely defunct now
